Crossing the Kvarner the day after a storm-force easterly was both a challenge and something deeply beautiful. With big waves, wind, and the helm fully trusted to me, I felt safe, present, and alive.

It brought back feelings from my childhood pure joy, trust, and connection with the sea. I will always be grateful.

Where we begin

A small marina on Pag. A quieter start.

We start from the small boutique marina of Šimuni on the island of Pag — about one hour from Zadar Airport, but at least a day away from the charter crowds.

From here, we sail through a wilder side of the Adriatic: raw islands, quiet bays, clear water and real sailing conditions. Kornati, Telašćica and Krka National Parks are nearby, while the Lošinj archipelago, known for its healing climate since 1889, lies in front of us.

The exact route is shaped by wind and weather — and that becomes part of the learning process.

Whether you are completely new to sailing or already know a few knots, we start from where you are. The learning is adapted to the crew, then built step by step through real sailing, calm guidance and practical experience.

The rhythm of the week

How the week unfolds

This is a full week on board — from Saturday evening to the following Saturday morning. We do not rush into the sea. We begin by settling in, meeting each other and becoming a crew.

01

Saturday — Arrival & settling in

Arrival is from 18:00 in Šimuni on Pag. You settle into one of the three shared cabins, meet the crew, get familiar with the boat and ease into the week.

02

Sunday — Weather, roles & first manoeuvres

After 09:00, we prepare to leave the marina. We check the weather, discuss the possible route, assign basic roles and start with safety, boat routines, steering, lines and simple manoeuvres.

03

Monday — Building the basics

We continue with hands-on sailing, sail handling, trimming, movement on deck, anchoring basics and the rhythm of life on board.

04

Tuesday — Seamanship in practice

Depending on conditions, we focus on docking, anchoring, manoeuvring under engine, reefing, boat systems or longer sailing legs.

05

Wednesday — Planning the route

By midweek, the crew becomes more involved in reading the weather, choosing safe options and planning the route based on wind, conditions and the energy on board.

05

Thursday — Bringing it together

More responsibility goes to the crew: steering, sail trim, anchoring, navigation, decisions on board and working together calmly as a small team.

05

Friday & Saturday — Return & closing

We return to the marina on Friday around 18:00. The final evening is for dinner, reflection and closing the week. Check-out from the boat is on Saturday by 09:00.

Meet your skipper

Hi, I'm Gregor

the founder and skipper behind Lazy Tackers.

I first stepped on a sailing boat as a child in 1989. It was love at first sight — not only for sailing, but for the simple discovery of how little we need to live, and how much beauty nature can offer when we slow down enough to notice it.

Since then, sailing has taught me a lot.

At sea, titles matter less. Ego gets tired quickly. You learn to listen, to prepare, to take responsibility, to help others, and to respect forces bigger than yourself.

Over the years, from the Adriatic to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, I have seen this in many different settings — close to shore and far offshore, in calm family moments and in full racing mode. The context changes, but the lesson keeps becoming clearer:

Good seamanship is not about looking confident.

It is about becoming calm, useful, present, and trustworthy — one decision, one tack, one shared moment at a time.

I created Lazy Tackers because I believe sailing is one of the most honest ways to return to what matters: attention, simplicity, courage, connection, and respect for nature.

Many people are drawn to the sea, but feel pushed away by pressure, ego, or technical language. I wanted to build a different kind of week — one where you can learn to sail, but also learn to live more simply, move with the rhythm of the boat, ask questions, make mistakes, share space, and slowly begin to trust yourself at sea.

Lazy Tackers is not about becoming someone else.

It is about remembering how good it feels to be present, useful, curious, and alive.
